Badli
ki sarai was once a roadside "inn" which was used to provide shelter and
refreshment for long distance travellers in medieval times. Badli Ki Sarai, a Mughal monument located on Grand
Trunk Road, built by emperor Shah Jahan in 1650, is one such monument that is
on verge of extinction. The venue of famous Battle of Badli ki Sarai, fought
early in the Indian rebellion of 1857 between the rebel sepoys and the Gordon
Highlanders is literally in state of ruins.
The sarai (inn) is not same as it was during that time but most of
it was destroying during the battle. What we have today are two large gateways
on both the ends of an open field. The compound has now been protected by the
authorities by iron grills and pathways have been laid around the field.
Children can be seen playing in the fields but there is a guard positioned to
prevent any damage of the actual monument. Badli ki Sarai is located just
infront of Adarsh nagar metro station. Even I wasn’t aware of this place but I
got to know about this from some magazine few months ago, I don’t remember the
name of magazine but after that I searched on internet and I don’t think so
that many of you are aware of this place like me.
